All the aimless author news you can handle.

I am all caught up. We now return you to our regularly scheduled programming.

Okay. I deployed an extra page on Friday, and barring international incidents, this week's page will be up tonight. It's inked, but it needs the lettering. Sorry about the slight delay. This should bring me back to schedule. I will also work on developing a backlog, which is something I've always been lousy at.

Page 27 is up a day early, since I haven't yet given up hope that I might finish another comic before the end of this week. Am I fooling myself? Only time will tell.

Since there is no comic today, I thought I'd scan in a few pictures of the Gothbunnies from my sketchbook. As I was flipping through it this morning, I realized that many of the Gothbunnies pictures include characters that haven't appeared in the comic and/or spoilers. So, this sketchbook dump is mainly Sorrel and Dittany pix, ranging from the end of August to mid-December. If I ever have another emergency, I will do a dump of boy bunny pictures. But in the meantime, this is what I've got:

THE FINAL WORD: There will be no comic this week. I got my machine back on Saturday, and I spent all of Saturday and most of Sunday trying to get the OS back up again. Here's a tip: when the computer store guy says "do you want us to install the drivers for you?" clamp your big mouth shut and nod "yes", even if you're a computer professional. Neither Neil nor I caught the fact that our bootable Windows 2000 CD doesn't contain drivers for the nForce3 chipset. The Linux Fedora boot disk worked, but it doesn't recognize the NTFS file system. I had to slap another hard drive in and install XP. Then I had to reinstall every goddamned thing. That took up most of Sunday.

Anyway, I'm back in business now, but I didn't have any time to do any drawing this weekend. Depending on whether I work like a madwoman, there may be an extra comic next week, though. It will depend largely on what else I end up having to do this week.

Anywho, thanks for your patience in this time of trials. There's nothing sadder than a computer-less computer geek.

ADDENDUM TO NOTICE: Welp, the motherboard is fried. I downloaded Prime 95 to stress-test the sucker and the CPU test fried it INSTANTLY. I mean, I clicked "OK" and my machine called out the safeword.

I am (hopefully) getting a new motherboard on Saturday, since the local computer shop schedule is completely incompatible with mine. Who the hell closes up shop at 19:00 other than tiny boutiques on Whyte? And Nordraft, of course, which is only open for two hours on alternate Thursdays. But I'm not bitter.

Anyway, while I'm there, I will also be getting a new CPU, some new RAM and a new power supply. And maybe a new videocard, so that people who know hardware won't make fun of me.

In short, I'm keeping some hard drives, and the case. Yeesh.

What does this mean for the comic? It depends on how nicely all the new things play together. There is no time to set up an alternate computer. Either the computer shop assembles everything on Saturday and it works with a minimum of driver-twiddling, or there will be two comics next week.

I'm not sure why I'm making such a fuss about the whole thing, other than that: a). I hate it when comic creators can't stick to a schedule and b). I'm a computer geek, and without my home computer I am cast adrift in an empty, internetless, photoshopless world of bathtub-cleaning and re-reading my Terry Pratchett collection. I can't concentrate on comics while my computer is sick.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: World of Warcraft has temporarily killed my computer. You know -- the computer my scanner and tablet are attached to, that has Photoshop and Illustrator installed on it. I'm planning to spend tonight at the local computer shop looking for a rez, in the form of a new power supply and possibly a gigantic array of fans and liquid nitrogen tubing. That'll teach me to have my gaming computer also be my art machine.

Anyway, my backup plan is to dig my old machine out and hook the scanner up to that. Assuming I can find the computer, I can probably set it up with the scanner and Photoshop. Chances are poor that Illustrator 10 will work on it in any manner other than that of a beached whale. So, I will probably have to hand-letter next week's comic.

Failing that, I'm royally screwed. So, in the best case I will resurrect Hideo with a new power supply and all will be hoopy. In the worst case, there will be no comic next week. In the average case, there will be a comic but the lettering will be different and it may not be as clean because I don't know if the old Hideo will be able to handle the high resolution I work at.

Thank the badger that I do most of my work on paper. Even if the worst comes to pass, I will still work on the comic and post up a big clump of them when I get Hideo working again.

One month of useless blogging completed! Yaaaay!

I've added a "Journal of the Damned" archive, over to your right. If you're missing some of the comic links, etc. I posted, you can find them there or dig through my links page. Your choice.

Today's linkback is the French furry directory Furfaq. It's got a great furry comic directory under the link "Bandes desinees en ligne". The best part is that I know French just well enough to be able to catch most of the words in the comic descriptions, but not all. I'll probably have a great time trying to translate the descriptions.
